Calm Down

Calm Down is one of the first teas I ever made for Hedgewitch Holistics and remains my best-selling tea. It’s simple, yet effective and super tasty! It’s two biggest stars are lemon balm (Melissa officinalis) and skullcap (Scutellaria lateriflora). Lemon balm is a nourishing, tonic nervine that can calm a hyper or anxious nervous system, gladdens the heart when you’re feeling down, improves mood and can provide relief from stress, anxiety, mild depression, Seasonal Affective Disorder and insomnia. Skullcap is another tonic nervine that can calm irritability brought on by stress or anxiety and allow you to slow down and respond differently if you tend to be someone who “snaps” when you’re overwhelmed or under pressure. Chamomile (Matricaria recutita) is added not only for its calming and relaxing effects on the nervous system but also for its comforting familiarity and delicious taste. Spearmint (Mentha spicata) shows up to lend its cooling, refreshing and uplifting effects on the nervous system as well as its taste. One of my favorite properties of spearmint is that it’s both calming and energizing at the same time. This may sound contradictory, but I find it to be particularly helpful when dealing with stress as it can help you feel less overwhelmed but still have the energy you need to go about your daily responsibilities.
To use: Steep one tablespoon to eight ounces of hot water for at least 20 minutes. It’s also very refreshing as an iced tea!
